One man's dream: to make a million dollars, doing what he loves

Every year, hundreds of Renaissance Faires take place across the US. From New York to San Francisco, enthusiastic Americans spend weeks at a time pretending to live in 15th century Britain.

The days of the British Empire may be long gone, but clearly Her Majesty's influence has not been entirely extinguished across the pond. Participants, dressed in period garb, enthusiastically call out "Good day M'Lord" and "Good 'Morrow M'Lady'" in their best British accents to slack jawed attendees.

A whole community of 'Rennies' ply their trades at the faires, which are never open more than 10 weeks at a time. Behind the scenes theirs is gypsy life, on the road living out of their trailers, cars or trucks from one faire to the next. Modern day American beatniks.

Except it's not beatnik money, for the truth behind the sometimes kitsch facade is that every year fortunes are made and lost on the Ren Faire circuit. Make no mistake about it, the shop owners here are playing for keeps.

"Faire Traders" is an exclusive behind the scenes look at the highs and lows of one man's struggle to start a shop, build a team and sell his products in the fiercely competitive but potentially highly lucrative environment that is 'an American Renaissance'.
